At many universities, research opportunities are only open for graduate-level students. Not Georgia Tech, and definitely not Georgia Tech AE. In a typical academic year, more than 30 percent of eligible AE undergraduates participate in research. You might surprise yourself by becoming one of them. It all starts with your initiative. Undergraduate Research. As a center for new discoveries in the liberal arts, Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College offers a wealth of opportunities for undergraduate research. This is a substantial experience with potential to advance knowledge in a field. Many ECE students enter the Research Option after experiencing our UROP program. The Research Option consists of 9 hours of research coursework, either for credit or for pay; LCC 4701 and an associated research proposal; LCC 4702 (during the last semester of research); an undergraduate thesis; and a web portfolio.
Up to six hours of research for credit (BMED 2699/4699) are allowed to count as BMED depth elective credit, provided the research was conducted in the same lab over a period of at least two semesters. These do not have to be consecutive semesters. One of your two semesters can be for pay, and satisfy the two semester requirement, although the semester for pay does not count as credit. Undergraduates, who are upperclassmen at Georgia Tech, Emory, Spelman, and Morehouse and who are studying in a science, mathematics, or engineering related field are solicited to apply to the FACES Undergraduate Scholars Research Program. As a FACES scholar, the students perform research under the supervision of an academic faculty member.
